2014 NCAA Field Hockey Final Four

Throw out your statistics, strength of schedule markings and player sheets because 2014 has been a thrilling year of upsets and competitive hockey. Here is a preview of this upcoming weekend’s DI and DIII Final Fours. The DII field hockey programs are still playing and the Final Four has yet to be determined.

The first NCAA Final Four match is a repeat of the ACC Tournament Semifinal. No. 1 UNC will face No. 4 Syracuse Friday at 2p.m. in College Park, Md. Syracuse is playing in its third Final Four in program history after a 3-1 win against No. 6 Penn State. UNC is headed back to the Final Four after defeating No. 9 Duke, 3-0 last weekend. The Final Four trip is the sixth in a row for the Tar Heels and the 19th in program history.

The defending National Champions, UConn will play in the National Semifinal after defeating No. 8 Stanford, 3-1. The 18-3 Huskies will meet No. 12 Albany on Friday November 21 at 4:45p.m. in College Park, Md. The Great Danes upset the home team favorite, No. 2 Maryland 2-1 to advance to their first Final Four.

The DI NCAA National Championship game will be at 1p.m. on November 23 in College Park, Md.

DIII Final Four play opens with a rematch of the 2013 National Championship game. No. 1 Salisbury will play against the defending champion Bowdoin at 11:00 a.m. at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va. The Bowdoin Polar Bears will play in the Final Four after an exciting 2-1 victory against Skidmore. Salisbury is headed back to the championship weekend after a thrilling 1-0 win against Wellesley College.

No. 4 TCNJ will meet No. 2 Middlebury College on Saturday, November 22 at 2p.m. in Lexington, VA. The Final Four trip is the 21st in TCNJ program history and the first time since they claimed the National Title in 2011. The Middlebury Panthers will compete in the Final Four after a dominate 5-1 victory over Ursinus College.

The NCAA DIII National Championship match will take place at 1 p.m. on Nov. 23 in Lexington, Va.
