Kent Denver, Colorado Academy, Denver East, Smoky Hill battle for Colorado title

The semifinals for the 2009 Colorado Field Hockey Championship involves three past state champs, including perennial contender Kent Denver.

No. 1 Kent knocked off Mountain Vista 2-0 on Friday behind goals by Molly Coates and Lizzie Strazza. That set up a semifinal with No. 5 Colorado Academy, which blanked Cherry Creek 2-0. Earlier this season, CA topped Kent 1-0. On the other side of the bracket, No. 6 Smoky Hill edged Palmer Ridge 3-2 while No. 2 Denver East whitewashed defending state champs St. Mary’s 2-0.

The semifinals are on Wednesday, starting at 5 p.m. with Kent vs. CA, followed at 7:15 by East vs. Smoky Hill. The championship game will be at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2. The semifinal and championship games will all be played at Burt.com Stadium.
