Maria Toorpakai Wazir is the Subject of a New Documentary, GIRL UNBOUND: The War to Be Her

Harrow sponsored professional squash player Maria Toorpakai Wazir received international coverage this past spring for revealing that as a young girl in her native Pakistan, she made the decision to pose as a male in order to play squash. Her story has now been made into a documentary: GIRL UNBOUND: The War to Be Her

Premiering at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), GIRL UNBOUND follows Wazir as she trains in Toronto while her family simultaneously faces threats in her home country. To this day, the Taliban forbids women to participate in sports, and the film her family is ultimately forced to move from due to safety concerns.
